The Zwartbles name means ‘black with a white blaze’. She is a tall, long-bodied sheep which always carries her head up high, with alert ears. We are keen to talk to anyone interested in the breed as we have found them easy to handle, easy to lamb and generally an ideal introduction to sheep keeping, and we are happy to share our knowledge and experiences. We sometimes have breeding stock for sale.
Rearing Quality Lamb:
Our lamb is born and reared on the farm where welfare standards are a priority. We follow a careful breeding programme, using pedigree Zwartbles sheep, which produces a large, lean carcass. The lambs spend their days grazing in a unique environment. The fresh sea air and rich herby pasture gives the meat its tenderness and distinct, delicious flavour; which is why our “Keyhaven” lamb is such a special product.
We Care About Our Animals:
We use a small abattoir in Dorset, which we carefully selected and inspected. All the animals are transported by us in small groups and traveling times are kept to a minimum. We believe it is imperative for meat quality that the animals remain unstressed and handled as little as possible. Carcasses are hung in a controlled chilled environment for 10 days before being cut and packed by an award winning butcher.
